Anupama Episode 17 Written Updated (23,Aug 2022)

Sunlight pours into a messy kitchen, lighting up Anupama (in her 40s) as she scrubs dishes in a rush. She keeps glancing at the clock, sweat trickling down her forehead.

ANUPAMA (muttering) It’s 9:15 already! Vanraj will be so angry. Where’s my phone?

She searches all over—on the counter, in the sink, even in her saree pockets—but can’t find it. She starts to feel anxious.

INT. PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE – SCHOOL – CONTINUOUS

Anupama is now in front of a serious PRINCIPAL (in his 50s), who has a messy desk full of papers.

PRINCIPAL Mrs. Shah, can you explain why you were absent so many times today? This inspection is very important.

Anupama fidgets with her purse strap, her voice trembling.

ANUPAMA I’m really sorry, sir. There was an emergency…

PRINCIPAL (interrupting) Emergencies happen, Mrs. Shah. But this is the third time this week.

He sighs and slides a paper towards her.

PRINCIPAL (continuing) This is a formal warning. If there’s another incident, we might have to rethink your position.

Anupama feels a sinking feeling and is overwhelmed with shame.

INT. SHAH HOUSEHOLD – LIVING ROOM – CONTINUOUS

In another room, Vanraj (in his 40s) paces around with his phone to his ear. Kavya (in her 30s) sits on the couch, looking annoyed.

VANRAJ (on the phone) I understand, Mr. Iyer. We’ll set up another meeting for tomorrow.

He hangs up, clearly upset.

VANRAJ (continuing) This is ridiculous. Kavya, where were you? Didn’t you see any calls?

KAVYA (defensively) I was busy, Vanraj. We’ve talked about this before.

VANRAJ Busy is not an excuse! Anupamaa could have lost her job because of this!

INT. SHAH HOUSEHOLD – KITCHEN – CONTINUOUS

Anupama bursts into the room, her eyes filled with tears. Vanraj and Kavya look at her, and the tension in the room is intense.

ANUPAMA (voice breaking) I lost my job.

The scene freezes, showing the broken morning for the Shah family.
