Akshay Kumar’s Tirangaa Directed by Sanjay Chauhan, Shoots in 2024 end

Akshay Kumars Tirangaa

We had previously clarified that Akshay Kumar’s forthcoming film Tirangaa is not a remake of the 1993 classic starring Nana Patekar and Raaj Kumar. We have now received an exciting update: Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan will be directing the film.

According to our sources, the film’s producers—Ashvin Varde, Subhash Kale, and Narendra Hirawat—along with Akshay Kumar, believe that Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan is the ideal choice to helm this project and deliver the commercial appeal it requires. This conviction led to Chauhan joining the team as director.

The film is expected to start shooting by December 2024. Chauhan, known for his National Award-winning films Lahore (2010) and 72 Hoorain (2023), also contributed as a writer to Ranveer Singh’s cricket drama ’83 (2021). His previous collaborations with Akshay Kumar include the planned project Gorkha, which was shelved due to technical and factual issues as confirmed by Aanand L Rai in January 2023.

Chauhan had also been slated to direct Chandamama Door Ke, a space film starring the late Sushant Singh Rajput.

On August 10, producer Narendra Hirawat addressed rumors about Tirangaa being a remake. He confirmed, “Recent reports claiming that our film Tirangaa, starring Akshay Kumar, is a remake are entirely false.” We confirm that while Akshay Kumar will indeed lead the film, it is an entirely new and original script. We will make an official announcement about the project soon.”
